Are you a journalist who wants to be ahead of the game in understanding how new technology is transforming the way we live, work, and interact with each other? Do you have a limited understanding of Blockchain but feel you should probably know more?
The Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) is offering a select group of journalists from around Europe the opportunity to take part in a fully funded training course designed to deepen the media’s understanding of the opportunities and the risks of Blockchain and cryptocurrency (also known as Web3 technologies). This new and exclusive programme kick starts with a two-day in-person regional workshop in Berlin, followed by online Masterclasses and 1:1 mentoring sessions to equip journalists with the knowledge and skills to report on the broader implications of Blockchain technology, beyond its financial applications.
The new programme is part of the Foundation’s growing focus on new and emerging technologies. The training course is a first for the Foundation, and will serve as a pilot to generate valuable insight as we look to scale this area of our work in the coming years.
About the Course
- In this interactive and comprehensive training program, you will:
- Experience practical exercises: Set up your first Web3 wallet address, explore Web3 application in real-world contexts such as supply chain transparency.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of Blockchain technology and its applications beyond finance.
- Explore the intersection of Blockchain and climate, human rights, and other critical issues, and identify innovative story angles.
- Improve your ability to report on Web3 applications, including decentralized finance (DeFi), and more.
- Build a network of journalists with similar interests and expertise and gain access to reliable sources in the Web3 field.

Eligibility Criteria
- This course is open to journalists and freelancers working in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom with a minimum of 2 years of journalism experience in any field of reporting.
