The Ministry of Tourism and Environment in collaboration with GIZ Albania announce the call for applications to promote and recognize climate journalism that has an innovative approach, based on facts and original articles, encouraging journalists to report on climate-related issues.
The project aims to further strengthen NDA’s capacity to fulfill its role as the main focal point and communicator on GCF and climate change issues in the country. The project will be an initiator for systematic extension, transparency, coordination and exchange with all actors. Along with training journalists on climate change and development impacts, it will also help disseminate information on the GCF process and have a wider reach on the climate agenda for the country and the importance of climate action.
Categories
- The climate journalism open call is organized into five categories:
- Data: Journalists skilled in analyzing and interpreting data to present factual knowledge on climate change.
- Storytelling: Journalists who can deliver climate change narratives with fresh perspectives and a focus on problem solving.
- Visualization experts: who can make climate data attractive and understandable through interactive graphics and presentations?
- Emerging talent: Emerging journalists and editors bringing innovative ideas to climate reporting, including virtual reality experiences, podcasts, social media campaigns or other innovative methods of climate communication.
- Policy-oriented: Journalists who are focused on political and legal issues, such as international and national policies related to climate change, various strategies and plans related to it, international conventions such as the Climate Partnership, UNFCCC/COP28, etc.

Responsibilities
- Active participation during a three-day training program, including one day in Tirana and two days conducting field inspections in one of the areas affected by climate change in the country.
- Conduct in-depth research on climate-related topics to produce informative and impactful content.
- Prepare and submit high-quality journalistic articles.
- Engaging in discussions and collaborations with fellow journalists to share knowledge and ideas.
- Participation in webinars, seminars or forums to improve knowledge of climate journalism.
- Using your journalistic platform to advocate for climate action and promote public engagement on issues related to climate change.
- Engaging with audiences through social media, answering questions and building an audience interested in climate journalism.
- Working closely with mentors or experienced journalists for guidance and support.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, environmental science, climate studies or a related field.
- Strong research, writing and reporting skills to convey complex climate-related information in a clear and engaging manner.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques to effectively interpret and present climate-related data.
- Enthusiasm and willingness to report innovatively on climate, learn and grow professionally.
- Strong written and spoken English language skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Skills in social media management for audience engagement and outreach.
