CMR Nepal Journalism Academy in collaboration with Germany’s Interlink Academy has announced applications for Data Driven Journalism training for Nepali journalists in Kathmandu.
Journalists selected for training will be provided with training fees, food during the training period and fellowship for accommodation for journalists outside Kathmandu Valley.
What are the subjects of the training ?
- The training in Nepali language will include the following topics:
- Data in journalism
- Working with data: calculations and filtering
- Data Visualization: graphs, charts and maps
- Data sources and formats
- Data scrapping and cleaning
- Making sense of the huge data
- Live tables, graphs and maps
- Data-driven stories
Training Format
- The training is conducted in the 6+6+6 format of the Journalism Academy. This means 6 days of training in the classrooms of the academy from 9 am to 5 pm, then 6 weeks of online training and finally 6 days of training from 9 am to 5 pm.
Who can apply?
- Nepali journalists with at least three years of experience.
- This training is a basic training and even those with no data journalism experience can apply.
Selection Process
- A committee of training facilitators, Journalism Academy representatives and Interlink Academy representatives selects 12 candidates from the applications received. In this way an effort is made to make the selection participatory.
- No more than one participant from one media will be selected for the free training.
