The Journalists’ Association is seeking applications for the Training Camp for Youth Journalists to strengthen the quality of journalism and independent journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey.
The polarized nature of media ownership and the economic turmoil causing media companies to shrink are having a negative impact on young journalists’ access to internships as well as employment. At the same time, both young and career journalists are deprived of unstable working conditions and opportunities to increase their professional capacity to adapt to the constantly emerging contemporary journalistic practices.
In light of this, 10 from Turkey and the Western Balkans, considering that practical experience and professional leadership are critical for producing quality original news project partnered by the Journalists’ Association training camp will take place with the young journalist. The language of education is Turkish.
Objectives
- The training camp, which will be held under the trainers of Hülya Eraslan and ÿbrahim Gündüz in order to provide opportunities for young journalists to produce original news content in addition to vocational training, will be held for 5 days in ÿzmir, Sÿÿacÿk Maya Bistro Hotel with 10 young journalists.
- They are required to be present at all sessions of the camp. Accommodation and transportation fees of the participants will be covered by the Journalists Association within the scope of the project.
- No direct financial contribution will be made to the beneficiaries, but in-kind support. No direct financial support will be provided to beneficiaries who receive support from the project.
- Instead, only the beneficiaries’ means of realizing their projects will be financed; In other words, the services, equipment and other necessities required for micro projects will only be purchased by the Journalists’ Association and provided to the participants.
- In-kind support for Micro Projects
- The services/goods for which the applicant wishes to receive support will be made through the supplier, and all eligible expenses must be invoiced to the Journalists’ Association with VAT exemption. Payments will be made by the Journalists’ Association to the relevant supplier at the end of the service.
- All travel and accommodation will be made through the agency contracted by the Journalists’ Association.
- Participants who complete the training camp will be entitled to implement their micro projects.
Funding Information
- Micro-projects will receive in-kind support of up to 1,000 € (one thousand euros) per participant, and assisting professional sustainability will be the main theme of this support mechanism.
- Duration:Â The implementation period of micro projects will last for a maximum of 3 months and will start on October 2, 2023.
Criteria
- The applicant, who is entitled to participate in the training and therefore can receive support for micro projects, must meet the following conditions:
- Joining from TĂĽrkiye or the Western Balkans;
- be under the age of 45;
- To be a Journalism/Communication graduate (priority group) or to be a journalist for at least two years actually to be a priority (priority group);
- Priority will be given to female applicants.
- Being a journalist working in any organization.
- Being a freelance journalist.
