The imagineNATIVE Institute is excited to announce the Story Editor Mentorship Program to increase Indigenous expertise in film script development by providing mentorship in story editing alongside the imagineNATIVE Screenwriting Features Lab and the imagineNATIVE Screenwriting Shorts Lab Writers.
The Story Editor Mentorship is a unique initiative offered to Indigenous Creatives in Canada.
Benefits
- The selected participants will meet virtually with imagineNATIVE Institute staff and Indigenous and non-Indigenous Story Editors to refine and build skills in critical reading, note-taking, and script feedback to provide insight and mentorship in story editing.
- The participant will have the opportunity to engage in story calls with selected projects in development while observing and participating in the process of taking notes and providing constructive feedback.
- The selected applicants will also receive travel and hotel accommodations and Industry Accreditation to the 25th imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival.
- This is an excellent learning opportunity.
Duration
- This is a one year paid mentorship beginning in January 2024 – January 2025 with ten sessions throughout the calendar year.
Eligibility Criteria
- They encourage Indigenous Creatives in Canada looking to engage with leading experts in the art, practice and business of story editing to apply.
- You must be at least 16 years of age.
- A two shifts minimum is required.
- They accept people from all backgrounds, ethnicities and strive to make the spaces accessible for everyone.
- imagineNATIVE considers an Youth Artist as someone of any age who is less that 29.
- They are accepting submissions in all languages. However, the festival audience is primarily English-speaking and Non-English language works with dialogue must include English closed captioning to be eligible.
- They are accepting film + video works (e.g. cinematic films, music videos, web series), digital + interactive works (e.g. non-interactive digital works, interactive works such as VR, video games, choose-your-own-adventure), and audio works (e.g. soundscapes, sound art, radio plays, audiobooks, narrative podcasts, documentary podcasts).
