“Non-discrimination and Diversity in the Media” Online Course (Tunisia)

Deadline: 10 August 2023

The Minority Rights Group International invites Tunisian journalists and foreign journalists working in Tunisia to register for the free online training “Non-discrimination and diversity in the media”, in partnership with the National Union of Journalists Tunisians.

This online course aims to provide journalists in Tunisia with the tools and procedures needed to write about and report on the experiences of minorities and minority groups in Tunisia.

Through this training, journalists will have the opportunity to better master media treatment which undertakes to:

  • Respect the ethical standards concerning the rights of minorities and minority groups.
  • Address the critical issues facing these groups (ethnic and religious minorities, linguistic minorities, LGBTQI+ people, migrants, people with disabilities, as well as multiple discrimination) in a more responsible and ethical way.
  • Fight against invisibilization and tell positive stories of different minority groups.

More specifically, participants will be introduced to the importance of positive narratives highlighting the struggles of these groups and the development of alternative histories to address issues of minority rights, diversity and migration.

This program will be provided by a trainer who will help them in the learning process. The subjects of the videos and/or podcasts proposed at the end of the training will participate in an internal competition. The top three selected subjects will be produced and awarded prizes.

Program of the Training

  • The program includes 8 weeks of free online training and six weeks of production monitoring of the three topics selected at the end of the eight weeks of training, available in Arabic or French (journalists will have the choice between the two languages offered).
  • The work will be done online except for the first and last meeting (September 02 and October 28, 2023) which will be face-to-face in Tunis.
  • The journalist will need to have their own computer and a reliable broadband internet connection.
