Film Generator is a new two-stage training programme that seeks to support the most exciting early-stage writers and directors in the North to experiment, find their voice, and develop as storytellers.
A brand new programme for early stage writers and directors who have something to say.
Ideas should be innovative, interesting, and have a unique perspective. The best ideas will have something to say and a distinctive way of saying it.

Eligibility Criteria
- The Film Hub North is looking for ideas that use the limitations of micro budget shorts to craft something distinctive, evocative, and compelling. Writers will apply with an idea which – if selected – will receive development support from the Film Hub North team to shape it into a winning short script.
- This opportunity is open to anyone based in the North of England who is looking to start a career writing for film.
- They are particularly interested in applications from traditionally underrepresented voices.
- They expect to select 4 projects for development in this stage.
Guidelines
- Writers should consider the following guidelines:
- Max 10 pages
- Max 3 characters
- Max 2 locations
- Ideally 4-7 minutes long
- Ideally features characters that could be played by different genders/ages/ethnicities
