The Reporting on Addiction, with support from the Solutions Journalism Network’s Complicating the Narrative Fellowship, is accepting applications for four micro grants.
These grants will support long-term reporting that uses complicating the narrative techniques to cover prevention, addiction, harm reduction, treatment and/or recovery in your community. Story pitches can be for any platform, print, digital, radio, television, podcast, etc.
Funds will support stories created in any medium – photo, digital, audio, video or other – in the hope of expanding newsrooms’ ability to deepen their coverage in this critical area. Reporting supported by these microgrants should extend beyond the daily news cycle and come with a commitment to publish.
Funding Information
- Three grants of $750 are available to professional journalists, working in a newsroom or freelance, and one $500 grant is available to a student journalist currently working on their undergraduate, masters or PhD.
Eligibility Criteria
- Journalists anywhere in the country are eligible to apply, but preference for one professional microgrant will be given to an Appalachian-based journalist due to the intensity of the addiction crisis in this region and the lack of financial support for Appalachian journalism.
