Angel Milestone International Photography Prize

Deadline: 24 May 2024

Nominations are now open for the 10th Angel Milestone International Photography Prize.

Ángel Hilario García de Jalón Hueto (1898-1976), better known as Jalón Ángel, was one of the most prominent figures of portrait photography in Spain during his 50 years of professional career. This photographer, of great social and human impact, began his earliest training in Logroño and perfected it in the first decade of the twentieth century, first in Lyon and then in Paris. In 1926 he settled in Zaragoza, where he combined his most personal and creative photography, specialising in travel, urban and natural landscapes, with his studio portraits.

His social concern led him to promote, in 1953, the San Valero Professional School, the root of the current San Valero Group, whose aim was to provide access to working life through the training of young people and adults without adequate resources.

This award pays tribute to the memory of Jalón Ángel with two annual categories: Portrait, a genre in which he excelled at a national level, and Travel and Traditions, to which he devoted much of his photographic creativity and interest. In addition, a special category dedicated to Cultural Heritage has been added to this year’s edition.

Entries must belong to one of the following genres:

  • Portrait: spontaneous or posed. The subject of the image is a single person or several (group portrait). The image must be focused on the person/s. Portraits of animals, or photographs of objects or plants are not allowed.
