You can apply to the Film Fund for a subsidy for the development of a short animated film of up to 60 minutes.
The Fund gives priority to original scenarios in the substantive selection and selects a high-quality, diverse and daring offer.
Phases
- It is possible to apply for the following phases of development:
- Treatment
- Scenario
- (Moving) storyboard, artwork
- Script coach/advisor
- Pre-production
Funding Information
- Maximum €15,000 for treatment, script, storyboard, artwork and pre-production.
- Maximum €2,500 for a script coach.
- Based on a sound work plan, an additional contribution can also be made available for involving creative or technical experts or heads of department or for making initial animation tests, with a view to developing a sound plan for implementation;
- An animatic contribution can be requested after a film plan has been further developed. There must then be at least a convincing scenario and in addition, the production of the animatic must be a logical and essential next step in the artistic and business development of the film plan in preparation for realization. The amount of the animatic contribution to be requested depends on the length of the film:
- max. €10,000 for films up to 10 minutes
- max. €20,000 for films up to 30 minutes
- max. €30,000 for films up to 60 minutes
- Producer: max. 17.5% producer fee & overhead on the development costs deemed eligible by the Fund.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant is an independent production company (a legal entity, not a sole proprietorship or general partnership) that has been established for at least two years in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, EEA or Switzerland and that produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on a continuous basis.
- Short animation with a length up to 10 minutes:
- The production company is represented by a producer who, as majority producer, has been primarily responsible for the realization and release of at least one free, non-commissioned film production (long or short) in the professional Dutch film and/or television sector. If the producer making his debut in the animation category, there must be demonstrable animation expertise present within the creative team at the time of the application.
- The producer who represents the production company is not the same person as the director and/or screenwriter of the film.
- Short animation with a length up to 10 minutes or more:
- The production company is represented by a producer who, as majority producer, has been primarily responsible for the realization and release of at least two free, non-commissioned animation film productions (long or short) in the professional Dutch film and/or television sector.
- The producer representing the production company is not the same person as the director and/or screenwriter of the film.
- Only when the intended fund contribution for realization is less than €50,000:
- A director who produces the film himself can also independently submit a development and realization application. In the opinion of the board, the director must then have demonstrable production experience in the field of animation. Previous productions that were created in the context of a training, competition or self-education will not be taken into account.
- A producer who meets the entry requirements for development in this category can also independently submit a realisation application.
